Since 2011, weekday District Line services to Kensington Olympia have been severely reduced, with just six trains operating during limited hours each day. This cutback was described as temporary pending signal upgrades, yet no reinstatement occurred despite signal modernisation being completed in 2022.

The need for a full District Line service is urgent.

33,000 people live and work within walking distance of Kensington Olympia station, and the area is set to welcome 10 million visitors annually following the £1.3bn redevelopment of the Olympia venue, opening from late 2025.

Without sufficient District Line services, visitors would have little choice but to rely on rail replacement buses, increasing local road congestion and travel times.

We are calling for a full weekday District line service to be reinstated:

  • up to 12 trains per hour in the morning peak

  • up to 10 trains per hour throughout the day and evening

This is achievable using existing track and network capacity. No major new construction is required.

Restoring service will benefit residents, workers and visitors, support sustainable transport, reduce pressure on surrounding stations, and give London the connectivity this destination now demands.

Let’s bring back the District line service this area and London now needs.”
